Aligning industrial policy and research: SUPEERA Policy Brief analyses new EU industrial strategy

The latest Policy Brief on the New EU Industrial Strategy was published within the framework of the SUPEERA project, part of a series of documents identifying concrete Research and Innovation (R&I) challenges in the most recent EU policies. This Brief, following the previous issue on the European Research Area, explores the key points relevant to the research community related to the EU industrial policy, a sector that will be fundamental in the process to abate carbon emissions.

The policy brief highlights and suggests recommendations on the main developments of the Industrial Strategy in terms of renewable energy, exploring which sectors will become a priority for researchers, industry representatives and policymakers alike.

Some of the key challenges identified are:

  • Addressing the dependence on raw materials
  • Increasing the energy efficiency of industrial processes
  • Improving circular processes to increase domestic production
